Upon her arrival she realizes his deterioration has not only been mental, it’s been physical as well. His death comes as no surprise, but what she discovers soon after, is shocking when his burden becomes hers.

Lock is a banished spirit who must attach himself to a human host in order to hide from those who would drag him back to hell to be destroyed. When he meets Rachael he finds more than a host, he finds an ally.
Together they must defeat each of the seven sins in order to guarantee Lock's safe passage into the Third Realm, a loophole in creation that would allow him to escape hell and have peace at long last. Through their unlikely friendship, other banished spirits flock to them in hopes of a peace they hadn't dreamt possible.

My Review

When a banished spirit attaches himself to fifteen year old Rachael she's certain her life will shortly come to an end just as her father's did. Until she and the spirit make a forbidden pack and set out on a journey to save his soul. A journey which will lead them on a deadly race against Hunters and demons to find the mythical Staff, said to be the only way a banished spirit can avoid being drug to Hell. Can Rachael and Lock save each other from damnation, or will the odds against them prove too great?

Banished Spirits is a dark journey into a world of evil and madness. A world where ruthless hunters and vicious monsters are the angels seeking to reap the souls of the damned. Into this world falls Rachael, an innocent young girl captured against her will by one of these lost souls.

Lock is desperately seeking a way to hide himself from the hunters until he can locate the Staff and the only way he can do that is to find a human host to bind himself to. When his current host dies, he attaches himself to first available person he can find. At first, Rachael is just another human, nothing but a warm body to be used and discarded. But all that changes with her offer of help in locating the Staff.

Side by side, through danger after danger, Lock and Rachael fight not only for their own souls, but for those of other banished spirits and their hosts.

Along with the darkness running strong through Banished Spirits, is a healthy does of self sacrifice and love. Rachael and Lock's romance is as heartwarming and sweet as it is seemingly impossible. Together, they change each other, helping one another grow into different and better people. The dangers they face are thrilling, with each turn of the page bringing new challenges.

The demon worlds Rachael and Lock visit are wonderfully diverse and tie in perfectly to their associated sins. Moments of pulse pounding terror are nicely interspersed with moments of levity and friendship. Watching Rachael and Lock's relationship blossom will warm your heart and leave you hoping for them to somehow find a happily ever after.

The other characters in the novel are equally as interesting and fully fleshed out as the main characters. Their stories are sad for the most part, as many of them are also lost souls seeking some kind of redemption.

If you enjoy YA paranormal full of feeling alongside adventure, then this is the book for you. If starts off a little shaky with some problems in scene transition which may leave you confused at times, but things rapidly pick up as the story progresses in such a way that you won't even notice any further flaws. My heart is still reeling and I am so happy I have the sequel on hand because I cannot wait to see what happens next.

My Review

Sometimes death is only the beginning. After Jordan Hastings is murdered by a classmate, he finds himself in a sort of waking nightmare. Not alive and yet not entirely dead, he walks a fine line between the world of the living and the world of spirits. In one, he is an ordinary teenager, in the other he is a Reaper bound to deliver souls to the Drop Off. When the struggle between his two halves puts those he loves a risk, he has to make a choice. But with his brother's soul on the line that choice is far from easy.

At first I was a little confused by this second novel in the My Demonic Spirits Series because most of the book actually takes place before the events of Banished Spirits. Still, it was nice to see things from the point of view of a Reaper this time around and to find out what happened to Jordan, among other things. The story is equally as exciting and action packed as the first installment in the series, though it is missing the sweet romance I so enjoyed between Rachael and Lock.

Jordan only wants one thing, to protect his brother. But that desire leads him into a course of action which changes everything. Every action he takes causes a ripple effect to spread far wider than he ever could have imagined.

I found this novel highly engaging and thrilling. I can't wait for the third book to come out so I can find out what happens next.
